DNA Test Results

A while back, it was suggested that a Hill family that is mentioned on the Other Micajah Hill Families page might be the family of Micajah Sr in this RootsWeb posting.

Results from the Y-DNA test that I ordered can be seen at the Hill Surname DNA Project site. My test (actually taken by my father) is #25413 shown on the DNA Test Results page.

The DNA results show a possible connection to Hills of Rockingham County, North Carolina, which I'll explain in the next paragraph. While this does not positively confirm the suggestion that our Micajah is the son of John Hill of Rockingham County, I believe it make this the most likely scenario. I'm hopeful that as the Hill Surname DNA project gets more participants (increasing all the time), we'll have more evidence to guide us.

Here's the possible connection to the Hills of Rockingham County: my DNA sample matches 25 of 25 with two descendants of Joab Hill. This Joab Hill sold land in Surry County, North Carolina in 1796 that four years earlier had been deeded to Jacob Hill, son of William Hill. This William Hill was very likely the same William Hill who lived adjacent to John Hill in Rockingham County. See the Charles Massey's web page for more details about this family.

There is also a 24 of 25 match with a descendent of a Moses Hill. Micajah's ancestry connects with Moses's ancestry, but I don't know how far back that happens. This will be a subject for future research.

April 2006 update: New DNA results support the suggestion that Micajah Sr. was the son of John Hill Sr. See this forum thread for details.

A future update to this site will reflect the new DNA information.
