Know all men by these presents that we, Joseph Smith and Caleb Anglin — are held and firmly bound unto John Page Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the time being in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which payment will and truly to the made to the said governor or his successors [can't read approximately six words] and each of our heirs Exod. V[?] Admirs[?] jointly and severely[?] formerly[?] by these present. Sealed with our seals and dated this 10th day of October 1805. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage depending and shortly intended to be had and solemnized, between the above bound Joseph Smith and Elitha Fawlkes, daughter of Jas. Fawlkes. If therefore there is no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
