1818 Marriage of James Martin and Hannah Carter

Transcribed by Michael Hill from photocopies made by Robert Hill in 1992 of Patrick Co. Marriage Bonds, pages 596-735, G929, Ada V, PAT 5 and Patrick Co. Marriage Bonds, pages 151-300, G929, Ada V, PAT 2 at the Bassett Public Library, Bassett, Virginia. The first digit of the page number of the first document was obscured. Based on the source page numbers, this was probably a "7". So the first document would be page 732 and the second is from page 276.

My comments are in square brackets. A question mark in square brackets means that I was unsure of the preceding word. The scanned images are below; let me know if you can provide any corrections to my transcription.

I'm including these documents on the website because circumstantial evidence is building that James Martin and Hannah Carter might have been the parents of John "Jackson" Martin.

Know all men by these presents that we James Martin and Samuel Hanby are held and firmley bound unto his Excellancy James P. Preston Governor of the Commonwelth of Virginia and his successors in office in the just[?] and full sum of One Hundred and fifty Dollars to which payment will and truely to be made we bind ourselves our heirs be[?] firmley by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 28 day of may 1818 and 42 year of the Commanwelthe.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said James Martin hath this day obtained from the Clerk of the County of Patrick a License for his intermarying with Hannah Carter of the said County of Patrick now if there should be no lawful cause to obstruct or why the said mariage for which said license is granted Shuld or ought not to take place then this obligation to be void.
