Wills, Deeds, and Other Documents

Post by Michael Hill »

Yesterday I posted a message with the transcript of George Smith's will. I just moved it to a web site where I'll be putting more transcripts. There's not much there yet, but here's the URL:

Michael and all,

First, I want to commend you for the work you have done in setting all of this up.

Second, I would like to make one small correction to your chart of 8 Apr 2006 which involves this family. Elizabeth P. Smith, sister of Elitha Fulchs Smith, is listed as married to Green Ayers. While I'm not sure what record you used to determine the spelling of Green's last name, but based on the 1850 census and his tombstone the spelling should be Ayres. His son, also named Green, apparently used the spelling Ayers in all records that I have been able to find. Also, I had not previouslly seen the marriage data of 19 Jun 1851 you have for them and would be very interested in knowing its source.

Third, I would also like to know what your thoughts are on posting data to this forum on the in-laws, as the Ayres/Ayers family would be?

Thanks, Con. I just revised the chart.

I also added a passage about Smith cemeteries in Ararat from May Belle Thompson Smith's "The Smith Family Genealogy". It includes burial information about Green Ayres. (Now that I look at it again, I see it indicates that Elizabeth remarried after Green died; I'll revise the chart and repost soon.)

The marriage date you asked about was from the same book. Page 250 has a family group sheet for George and Sarah, which shows the 19 Jun 1851 marriage date for daughter Elizabeth. I'll send you a copy of the page by e-mail.

I recommend starting a new thread in this forum. I don't know how many people will see it, but it should be indexed by Google and other search engines, so others researching the same family should be able to find it.

Michael,

A question. Do you have data on the children of Bartlett Smith? I'm particularly interested in resolving the question as to who the parents of James Smith, who married Sarah Willis, were?

Sorry, Con. I only know of his son George and that is from the Smith book mentioned earlier and from a deed that John Ford sent me <www.hillnetwork.com/gen/martin/index.php?page=bartlett_smith_1815_deed>.

"Elizabeth P. Smith, sister of Elitha Fulchs Smith, is listed as married to Green Ayers. "

What State and County is Green Ayers in on this record?
