Mary Ann Branam's Parents

This post is a work in progress—I'll be editing and adding to it. Right now, it's just a rough draft. I believe that Mary Ann Branam, wife of Joseph William "William" Swearingin, was the daughter of Beveridge Branam (1782-1861) and Elizabeth Napier (1803-1885). I'll present circumstantial...

Quite a while ago, I turned off user registration because I couldn't keep up with the spambots. I just changed forum software, which should make a big difference. So user registration is now turned on again. Please let me know if anybody has trouble with the new forum software.

Pension Application File

I ordered the 1878 pension application filed by Cynthia Harvey. I'll scan and upload it when I receive it. The National Archives sent me the 57-page pension application file, which I scanned and uploaded. Here's the link: www.hillnetwork.com/gen/harvey/files/Harvey_Pension_Application_File_from_NAR...

A Little Bit of History

Rena Young sent me "A Little Bit of History", written in 1950 by Viola Hughes Martin (1879-1962, daughter of Alice Wade Cameron and D.W. Hughes) and Belle Gordon Southward (1864-1957, daughter of Mary Elizabeth Cameron and G.W. Gordon). A scanned copy is attached to this message. "A L...

Parents of Lucy Harvey (b. abt 1816 in Georgia)

This write-up starts with what I know about my GGGG grandmother, Lucy Harvey. I then explore the circumstantial evidence that she may have been the daughter of Thomas Harvey and Cynthia Malone, a possibility that has already been suggested by others (Kelly O'Donnell, Rena Young, Judy Ray, and probab...

Welcome to This Forum

I know there are several people who are researching this Harvey family. I set up this forum as a tool to help us collaborate on our research. As of the date this forum was created, my primary goal is to prove who Lucy Harvey's parents were. My motivation for working on this is the recent Y-DNA data ...

Thanks for sharing your recollections, information, and pictures, Andra. I'll take a look at that census page you mentioned and either correct or annotate the web page.

Re: Picture of Columbus and family

Thank you. So this is the same cemetery that Micajah Sr. and his wife is burried in is what I am assuming. I think it's the same as the burial place you mentioned in your message. The spot on the map is where "Aunt Nicey", daughter of Micajah Sr., is said to have been buried (per J.D. Smi...

Re: Picture of Columbus and family

I am beginning to think that the person who typed the above meant to say "burried in a little indian cemetery" since I saw the post on your website by Jody where she says her great uncle took her to a cemetery... Is there any way I can contact her? I don't have her current e-mail address,...

John Martin Died 5 Apr 1822

John Martin's Revolutionary War pension file indicates that he died 5 Apr 1823. This date is contained in both testimony and the family bible. However, two court documents in the estate records (FHL film 2208543) state that he died in 1822. One, John M. Cloud vs. Joseph Martin and Johnson Clement, s...

Re: Wills, Deeds, and Other Documents

A question. Do you have data on the children of Bartlett Smith? I'm particularly interested in resolving the question as to who the parents of James Smith, who married Sarah Willis, were? Sorry, Con. I only know of his son George and that is from the Smith book mentioned earlier and from a deed tha...

Re: James MARTIN and Hannah CARTER

This thread began with a suggestion that James Martin and Hannah Carter might have been the parents of our John "Jackson" Martin. The subsequent messages documented our effort to prove or disprove this hypothesis. Although we haven't yet found the piece of evidence that definitively settle...

James P. Martin on 1850 Census

I've been assuming that the James P. Martin living with John and Elitha in the 1850 census, who would have been alive in 1830, was probably John's brother. John Ford, William Martin, and Alecia Tipton have all suggested that the "James P. Martin" on the 1850 census was actually James G. M...

Re: Wills, Deeds, and Other Documents

Second, I would like to make one small correction to your chart of 8 Apr 2006 which involves this family. Elizabeth P. Smith, sister of Elitha Fulchs Smith, is listed as married to Green Ayers. While I'm not sure what record you used to determine the spelling of Green's last name, but based on the ...

Re: James MARTIN and Hannah CARTER

Evidence of this appointment was submitted to the Stokes County Court of Pleas and Quarter Session and registered...

Y-DNA test results recently became available for a descendant of John Hill (b. 1782 in Guilford Co.--later Rockingham County, North Carolina, m. 1800 to Margaret Covington). Bill Corn has been researching this family for many years and has strongly suspected that this John Hill was the son of John H...
